Our Story: Built on a Belief in Africa's Potential

HostAfrica began with a simple belief: Africa's digital economy had enormous potential, and we wanted to help unlock it.

It started when one of our founders, Daniel Hagemeier, was analysing several South African companies. What caught his attention was not just the businesses themselves, but the opportunity behind them. He saw ambitious entrepreneurs, a rapidly developing market and a growing need for reliable, accessible digital services.

The more he explored the market and spoke with friends in South Africa, the more convinced he became: there had to be a better way to help African small and medium-sized businesses succeed online.

Daniel shared his vision with two fellow entrepreneurs and friends, Marcel and Michael. Together, they decided to turn that opportunity into a business. But rather than building the company from Europe, they wanted to be close to the customers and the market they hoped to serve.

Just four weeks later, Michael packed his bags and moved to Cape Town to build HostAfrica on the ground.

What started as an entrepreneurial adventure quickly became something much bigger. Michael fell in love with the African continent, its people and its entrepreneurial spirit. He made South Africa his home, where he continues to live with his family and lead HostAfrica as CEO today.

From those early days, our ambition has remained unchanged: to help digitalise Africa's economy by empowering businesses with the tools, infrastructure and support they need to thrive online.

Today, HostAfrica continues to grow across the continent, driven by the same conviction that brought its three founders together: Africa's greatest digital opportunities are still ahead of us, and we want to help make them happen. Daniel remains involved as non-executive Chair of the Board, Marcel as a consultative shareholder, and Michael leads the company as CEO.

Alongside our founders, our African leadership team are also shareholders. We are an owner-led company with roots around the world and a home in Africa.
